SUMMARY:Workshop: Square Foot Gardening
DESCRIPTION:THIS WORKSHOP HAS BEEN CANCELLED DUE TO ILLNESS. \nWe will go over the basics of using Mel Bartholomew’s Square Foot Gardening technique. Square Foot Gardening is a technique that is based on 4’x4′ raised beds\, specially prepared soil\, and a grid system of planting. The advantages are more yield in less space\, using fewer seeds\, less water\, ease of crop rotation\, and\, after the initial set up\, less physical labor overall. After the workshop participants will be able to set up and plant their first Square Foot Garden! Depending on time participants will have the opportunity to prepare a soil mix or make an SF garden grid. \n \nAbout Laura Lencioni:\nLaura has been a gardener for over 35 years. While she has no formal training\, her gardening education began early\, being taught as a child by her family the joys of gardening in the Chicago area. She became enamored of the Square Foot Gardening method in the ’90s and she has maintained a variety of SF gardens over the years. She is also a fan of edible landscaping\, organic gardening\, and urban beekeeping. She has given talks on these subjects to the Galewood-Montclare garden club\, Mayfield Garden\, cub scouts\, and homeschool students.\n \nRefreshments and supplies will be provided.
