Visitors to our CCGA website may learn about CCGA under the drop down menu "Who We Are," Scroll down to "Our Many Faces" to find more information in detail about the 5 committees. All of the messaging there needs to be brought into the 21st century, from the narrow explanation of "Who We Are" through the "Highlights" and the descriptions of the committees. Currently, the Advocacy & Outreach team is not even mentioned. Recently Julie, chair of membership, now A&O, met with Amy & myself, and we emailed with May, also on A&O, to draft the statement to go up on the website for the committee under "Our Many Faces". Here is what we came up with. Those on the committee, please reply with your comments, suggestions and approval for this statement to go on the CCGA website. TEAM PURPOSE The Advocacy and Outreach team?s work is centered around the belief that community gardens are important vehicles in creating resilient and vibrant neighborhoods. While Chicago's community gardens are our immediate focus, we have the potential to engage with other areas through advocacy because many issues affect our larger shared environment CURRENT Areas of focus ? provide a platform to share and address issues that arise in community gardens ? increase equitable access to safe water, healthy soil, and compost for gardeners ? build awareness about and address city-wide policy issues that affect community gardens ? work to increase equity and lessen division in community gardening ? establish beneficial connections between people and/or organizations ? support the important role of community gardens in creating healthier, greener communities and in the fight against climate change HOW TO CONTACT US We invite and encourage everyone to participate. With your help we can accomplish much together. For more information on this CCGA working group please contact our Advocacy & Outreach team at advocacy-outreach at chicagocommunitygardens.org Additional changes to the website will be shared at the co-ordinating meeting Tuesday, Oct.19. We'll leave final posting to the website to Amy & JW, so some of the structure may change. Please concentrate on the wording now. I think that it shows my commitment to the neighborhood as well as to the Garden Murals. I will personally send articles to Judith and others at CHA, although they have most likely read it. Thank you to all who called, emailed, and advocated for its passage! Climate change affects the most marginalized communities in Chicago and is not just an environmental issue - it affects our health, food and water, economy, and national security. Investing in innovative and necessary mitigations now is vital to ensure Chicago's ability to support its residents and compete with other global cities in the future. With this funding, important community-driven initiatives will be implemented, including: - Planting 75,000 new trees across the City over the next five years ? the largest tree canopy program in the City?s history. This includes creating job opportunities for planting and maintenance. - Building 20 new Spaces to Grow green schoolyards, which help reduce flooding in the most flood-prone communities. - Investing in neighborhood park improvements, including for beautification, recreation, and accessibility, and to install public broadband in locations including fieldhouses. - Community-driven investments in the Little Calumet River Initiative on and along the African American Heritage Water Trail. - Turning vacant lots into opportunities, streamlining the environmental review for all 10,000 City-owned vacant lots. This will put 4,000 of them into active use, including cleaning and transferring ownership of 3,000 lots to local residents and preparing 1,000 to be developed as affordable homes. - Jumpstarting a community wealth building pilot that includes investments in shared equity models, such as community land trusts ? giving historically disinvested communities more accessible and sustainable paths to building wealth. Thank you for advocating for these important investments in the city's future community and climate resilience! She reached out to me in September and I helped by sending her the pics she requested to choose from. I think you will enjoy this article, and might consider sending it with some of the invitations. I think that it shows my commitment to the neighborhood as well as to the Garden Murals. I will personally send articles to Judith and others at CHA, although they have most likely read it. Thanks for all the work you are doing on the Sinha Dinner- fundraiser for the two remaining murals at Maxwell Garden. Anne -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... In-Reply-To: References: <1137882984264.1102520706328.9361.0.351601JL.2002@scheduler.constantcontact.com> Message-ID: Thank you for advocating for climate investments in the 2022 Chicago City Budget [image: https://i1.wp.com/www.openlands.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/OPEN_tree_3c.png?fit=297%2C202&ssl=1] Historic Climate Investments Approved with the Passage of Chicago's 2022 Budget Openlands applauds Mayor Lightfoot and the Chicago City Council for passing a budget that makes historic investments in the environment to support community resilience to climate change and environmental equity for better quality of life for all.
