Chicago Community Gardens: Our Challenge to Build and Thrive. There was discussion at the meeting around the wording to point out that CCGA is not offering to build beds or gardens. It does not say that, but we as people in community gardens want to grow by building more beds, yes, by building more gardens, and expanding existing ones. We want to thrive by growing community. The words hold power and hope as concepts in this statement. Any proposal about clean soil helps our seedlings, our gardens, and all of us thrive. Building compost bins and understanding what soil amendments are and when and how to use them helps our gardens thrive. Anything that removes carbon, say planting trees, or practices that mitigate against climate worsening in the midwest helps community gardens thrive. This is a small part of what may be a bigger picture for the year ahead in gardening. I invite everyone to expand on this conversation at our January meeting. See you all on zoom. The ?Our? in the theme represents community gardens and gardeners as whole in Chicago - including CCGA. In response to JW?s message on Saturday about providing examples of presentation topics, I drafted some text to include on the RFP under the Presentation Guidelines: Proposals can include topics related to building thriving community gardens (planning, soil health, planting techniques, native plants, growing and preparing food, etc). We?re also seeking proposals that engage big-picture topics such as the evolving role of community gardens in Chicago, what we?ve learned from gardening during the ongoing pandemic (community impact, challenges, solutions, etc), and adapting community gardens for the changing climate in the Midwest. Message-ID: Hello, It is with our deepest sadness and heavy hearts that Angela and I take a moment to inform you, at Gina's request, of the passing of her son, Chrisean Jamison, 34 of age. Chrisean died unexpectedly Monday morning. Gina is surrounded by her family, her daughters, her grandson, and she asks only that you send love and prayers. There are no details yet as to a service. Angela and I ask that you give her privacy, yet do communicate your condolences and love and prayers, but not so as to overwhelm her all at once. Gina said that what brings her back to life is knowing that Chrisjean, who was married just last July, was happy and in love. He said those very words to Angela as well. Grief has encompassed our gardening community in losses throughout this pandemic, through black lives matter, but this loss to Gina is personal, and personal to all of us. We know her well, and she is that close to us, and now we can respond to her with love and affirmation of life. We send healing our thoughts to Gina. More of our own community gardeners can and should be featured in presentations such as panel discussions and sharing what's new and working in their community gardens for the gardening years ahead. You may have already received the RFP, my apologies for this duplication, but not taking chances that anyone gets left out. You'll find this final document much better at informing prospective presenters as to what we're looking for as relates to our theme. Thank you for your patience. Message-ID: <4BEFA3A6-FC8B-4B4D-8AEC-7B7283498DBF@me.com> Hi everyone, The RFP info below has been posted to the CCGA Facebook and Instagram accounts. Please share it if you can. Here?s the posted content as an email along with a graphic. (I?m working on a conference logo): Become a presenter at the CCGA 9th Annual Spring Conference (Virtual) As we welcome a new year, we're happy to announce the Chicago Community Gardeners Association's 9th Annual Spring Conference will be held virtually again this spring. But there's a twist! This year, the conference will be presented as a series of live virtual sessions from March 16-30, 2022. The theme of this year?s conference is Chicago Community Gardens: Our Challenge to Build and Thrive. Over the last two years, community gardens and farms have risen to the challenges we've faced and have had a profound impact on the health and well-being of our neighborhoods. Gardens have flourished and have continued to serve as vital resources in our communities for good nutrition, physical activity, social connections, and environmental stewardship. How is community gardening evolving in Chicago? What have we learned and how do we ensure thriving community gardens for Chicago?s future? Bring your challenges; share your visions and solutions! If you have a presentation idea, we'd love to hear from you. We seek presentations that provide engaging and informative content for both seasoned and new gardeners, inspiring and supporting their love of gardening. Beyond this, presentations should challenge gardeners to cultivate sustainable relationships and practices with plants, soil, and people that contribute to the well-being of their gardens, communities and the environment. Download the Request for Proposals via this link: http://chicagocommunitygardens.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/CCGA-2022-Conference-RFP.pdf The deadline for submission is Tuesday, February 1, 2022 by 5pm.
