Hello all,

It was brought to my attention this morning by an avid reader and community
gardener in CCGA Resources that the sludge euphemistically known as
"biosolid", lauded by MWRD and promoted as well to community gardeners, is
in fact as toxic as we thought. Please use the link provided here to read
in its entirety, especially part 2 in the piece in today's Trib
written by Pulitzer-finalist
investigative reporter, Michael Hawthorne, who focuses on the environment
and public health.

The title of the piece, *Sewage sludge contaminated with toxic forever
chemicals spread on thousands of acres of Chicago-area farmland, *couldn't say
it any better.

PFAS are man-made chemicals that have been used in industry and consumer
products worldwide since the 1950s. They have been used to make nonstick
cookware, water-repellent clothing, stain resistant fabrics and carpets,
some cosmetics, some firefighting foams, and products that resist grease,
water, and oil. Learn more at

And finally, a handy chart for seeing how it happens.

Thank you Ellen Newcomer for your attention.
JW or Amy, could either of you please post this in the CCGA Forum?

Regards,
Lorraine
