From ren at auachicago.org Thu Jun 16 11:00:24 2022 From: ren at auachicago.org (Ren Encinas) Date: Thu, 16 Jun 2022 11:00:24 -0500 Subject: [Advocacy-outreach] Introduction & AUA-CCGA Collaboration Message-ID: Hi CCGA Advocacy & Outreach Team, I hope you all are staying cool and in good care! My name is Ren and I am the Organizing Steward with the Advocates for Urban Agriculture. We have been working on a new land justice campaign to connect, defend, and support growers who are facing barriers to land and water access. My coworker, Viviana, recommended I reach out to you all, as CCGA is a critical resource and a powerful community of growers and advocates across the city. I would love the opportunity to meet/connect with you all and see if there are ways we can collaborate to survey and uplift issues impacting growers, build deeper relationships across our food ecosystem, and/or organize towards greater grower-led solutions. If this sounds like something in alignment with y'all, please let me know if there are any days/times in July that would work for any member(s) of your team to meet. Hope to connect soon! Mike Nowak : Jun 16 07:45PM -0700 The Chicago Excellence in Gardening Awards (CEGA) are back for 2022 and, after two pandemic years, once again IN PERSON! CEGA is Chicago's only citywide gardening program, honoring gardens throughout the City. Whether backyard, courtyard, parkway, rooftop, school, business, community garden or urban farm, CEGA wants to recognize hard work and creativity and the myriad ways that gardens improve our quality of life. Since 2017, CEGA has recognized more than 150 gardens representing 43 wards and 76 communities. We?re returning from the COVID-19 limitations with a goal of seeing gardens in all 50 wards! (We?ll even acknowledge the ward with the most winners!) Our judging crews are looking for beauty, horticultural skill, community connections and sustainability in determining which gardens will be acknowledged. Entries are being accepted through July 1 at https://chicagogardeningawards.org/, where you can find rules and an fill out an online entry form. There are no cash prizes, but it's FREE to enter, and honored gardens will receive certificates and beautiful all-weather signs that can be displayed outside year-round at an awards ceremony now scheduled for September. And, of course, bragging rights in their neighborhoods. Enter your garden today! If you have any questions, please write to me at mike at mikenowak.net.
