We want to begin discussions with you to see the many ways in which we may connect and continue to support growing communities. Our science and research based programs, informative workshops and community garden wide distributions have always supported community growers with increasing attention to advocacy for food security and equitable distribution of resources. The Grow Your Groceries sounds a bit like a grow kit we made with recycled egg cartons, seed starter mix, seed mix and an instruction booklet we put together for kids at our Spring Conference in 2019. Our conferences have been held virtually since then; in 2021 we offered presentations on urban community food forests as well as a new community food navigator app. Let us know what you have in mind and we can certainly set up a zoom in our room with you and any of your staff. I'm including a link here to our latest newsletter so you can readily see what we have going on for the near future. https://us14.campaign-archive.com/?u=7f2904daf2a26a891c68f8bb0&id=54c4dc7203 Warmest Regards, Lorraine Kells, Co-Chair, CCGA Education Committee and Communications Team volunteer. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... The survey closes tomorrow, Jan 22 and takes 10 minutes. Below is the info if you?re interested in doing a survey for his project: Link to survey: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdYs0x7HB3PtCCbtSZlWRO7Ie8LVaR5NkBrnj5WTiJ4ylyOSw/viewform?usp=sf_link Message from Ann Kauth from Merchant Park Community Garden: Thank you for your message! The survey was developed by my son, Sam Osorio, for his Advanced Placement (AP) Research Course at Lane Tech High School. The AP Research course teaches students how design, plan, and conduct a year-long research based investigation to address a research question. The data collected is anonymous and will be used to teach Sam how to analyze, write up, and present research findings. Sam is looking for Chicago area community gardeners to take a survey about their experience gardening and its relationship to social well-being. I started Merchant Park Community Garden in 2011 with some neighbors. We are a NeighborSpace garden and Sam has been gardening there since he was 7. By the way, here's the write up he used to communicate about the survey with Merchant Park Community Gardeners: "My name is Samuel Osorio, I am a senior at Lane Tech and am currently conducting a research project about social well-being amongst community gardeners of Chicago. I focused on you all because of the aftermath of the COVID-19 quarantine which may have impacted many of you socially, and because of the need for more research about social well-being amongst Chicago community gardeners. All of your information will be private, all responses will be completely anonymous with no names or emails being associated with your form response. That being said, I am very interested in your completely honest answers to these questions because of how valuable your opinions are to this field of research." This form attached in this email will be closing on January 20th, 2023, thank you for your participation in this important research, which I hope can be used to further understand the importance of community gardens in urban areas, and the importance of all of your participation in these community gardens. Thank you once again! Please email me if you have any questions or concerns: sam.osorio at icloud.com -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Maxwell Garden needs to determine how to deal with members who signed an agreement last season to complete a certain number of volunteer hours and watering shifts during the season. Our members have the option to buy-down part of their volunteer hours, but as we are a community garden that requires a lot of overall maintenance, they are still required to participate and complete a certain number of hours. Obviously, there are exceptions to our base requirement for the elderly or anyone who has an illness or disabilities. Also struggling with Board members who fail to follow through on their volunteer hours and overall commitments, including abandoning their plots because they are traveling too much to maintain them. It's not my intent to start a huge "round robin" of responses and clog everyone's emails. If you have something to share, please reply only to me individually. Many thanks in advance !
