Firstly a belated Happy Passover (Easter) greetings to you and your network of Farmers, Growers and or Food Producers.

Shifting to the above attached Flyer, I’m forwarding along notice of the 3rd ever Black Farmers Lobby Day, hosted by Illinois Congress State Representative. Sonya Harper, and to be held on May 14th, 2025 (in 3 weeks) in Springfield, State Capitol.

This is an important meeting day especially for Black Farmers, Growers and or in Food Space across Illinois, where they’ll be given opportunity to come meet and lobby in person, their own personal concerns and needs to Illinois State lawmakers themselves in regards to farming problems, issues that need fixing or help with.

The Grant Flyer (attached below) details and advises Illinoians, on a plethora of available Grants for them, as Farmers, Business owners, Grocers and all those in the Food Space, that they all can make use of to do the following :

- Scale their Farm business endeavor

- Alleviate unnecessary Farm business costs, or

- Get a general helping hand up for their Farm business.

1. GOOD FOOD PROGRAM INITIATIVE COMMUNITY FUND 2024 (GFPI)

Helps food producers like ‘Chicago Community Gardeners Association’,

Program Details: This program will improve access to fresh food within food deserts by providing incentives to establish grocery stores. The Illinois Grocery Initiative New Stores in Food Deserts program is intended to address the challenge of food deserts. Food deserts are census tracts meeting specific criteria related to poverty standards, population density, and limited fresh food accessibility. This program aims to combat food insecurity by offering competitive grants to support the establishment of new grocery stores in these areas by reimbursing successful applicants for eligible capital and non-capital costs. Awards will range from $150,000 to $2,400,000.

Eligible Applicants: Units of local government, independent grocers, or cooperatives with fewer than 500 employees and no more than four grocery locations. This includes for-profit and nonprofit entities. Eligibility for this program will also be based geographic location, characteristics of prospective store ownership, and the intended offering of the stores.

Eligible Applicants: Community-based organizations that provide employment, skill development or related services, and that have demonstrated relationships with residents and organizations serving the community are invited to apply. One organization may propose to deliver all services or may subcontract with or partner with other entities to provide program elements or conduct outreach to specific populations or communities. At this time, the Department is accepting applications from Champaign.

Eligible Applicants: At this time, the Department is accepting applications from organizations proposing to serve the following correctional facilities: Western Illinois Correctional Center and Vienna Correctional Center.

This funding opportunity seeks qualified, eligible public or private educational institutions at the secondary and post-secondary level that will work with the Local Workforce Innovation Areas and employers to recruit students into clean energy fields and create pathways encompassing technical and employability skills with dual credit options.

Eligible Applicants:  Regional Offices of Education (ROEs); Intermediate Service Centers (ISCs); state institutions of higher education; schools designated as laboratory schools, public university laboratory schools approved by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE); area vocational centers; charter schools; cooperatives and other joint agreements with a governing body or board of control; schools operated by an ROE, ISC, or state agency; and school districts are eligible to apply. Entities that are approved shall be responsible for ensuring that they have facilities available and educators who are appropriately trained on use of any technologies or devices acquired for the purposes of the grant. Collaborative applications will be accepted. Entities are allowed to submit one application. Eligible entities must partner with a Community College, a Local Workforce Innovation Area, and employers to pilot clean the energy pathway programs.

Eligible Applicants:  Units of general local government (i.e. cities, villages, townships or counties). Municipalities may submit “on behalf of” applications for local entities that otherwise would not be eligible to apply, for example, a not-for-profit shelter. Municipalities must not be a HUD direct Entitlement community or be located in an urban county that receives “entitlement” funds. Have a current Shelter Funding Strategy identifying needs and plans to meet the needs. Have a strong collaborative relationship with all relevant local entities (service providers, community organizations, etc.) and have letters of support from a minimum of 5 community homelessness support services.

Program Details:  The program targets housing projects which preserve single-family, owner-occupied housing and encourage neighborhood revitalization. Rehabilitation codes and standards which address mechanical, structural, energy efficiency and other associated rehabilitation activities should, at a minimum, incorporate applicable State plumbing, electrical and lead based paint codes as well as any local rehabilitation codes and standards.

Program Details:  The Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) are competitive federal grant programs that provide funding opportunities for small businesses to perform research and development (R&D) on technology of interest to federal agencies. Both projects provide funding to explore the potential of high-tech products and encourage commercialization of those products. This program would provide a state match to companies that have received awards through the SBIR and STTR grant programs.
