[Advocacy-outreach] May Tree Planting + June Hiatus & Upcoming Summer Events

Hello Everyone,

I hope the start of your summer has been going great! Lots of things are
blooming and the shrubs we've planted in the spring are putting on a lot of
new growth!

I'd like to update everyone on some previous and upcoming events!

*1. West Lawn Park Mother's Day Tree Planting*

On May 10th, we held our Spring Community Planting Day at West Lawn Park,
over 25 individuals came out to support and helped plant 30 trees,
including some in front of the field house and behind Lee Elementary School
by the playground! Thank you so much to everyone who came out, enjoy a few
pictures below!

*2. WLCC Hiatus*

Unfortunately, as summer was starting to bud we lost a lot of momentum as I
had to leave for Mexico for most of May and June due to a family emergency.

As we're slowly getting back into a rhythm, we promise to have an amazing
assortment of programs this summer!

I was in Guerrero, Mexico where almost 300 species of birds are endemic,
meaning they are only local to that region! The natural areas are massive
and biodiversity was amazing. I saw 20+ species of butterflies and moths,
frogs, toads, hummingbirds that came within 2 feet of me, and so so much
more. I know we can boost the native biodiversity in West Lawn in a few
short years and I'm looking forward to doing the work with you all!

*3. Marquette Park Stewardship Days*

We're tackling our FIRST MAJOR project of the summer with some community
planting days at Marquette Park! Two stewardship days in two weeks to help
beautify Marquette Park! Flyers Below!

Starting this Saturday!

*Where*: Meet behind Marquette Park Field House
*What*: Planting 100 native plants to boost biodiversity and prevent any
more erosion on the shoreline! Pruning, birdwatching, and light clean up on
the second day.
*When*: Saturday, July 12th and July 26th
10 AM-12PM

*REMINDERS:* REMEMBER TO WATER YOUR NEWLY PLANTED TREE 15-20 GALLONS OF
WATER PER WEEK! INSTALLING A RAIN BARREL IS A GREAT WAY TO SAVE MONEY, AND
HELP THE ENVIRONMENT!

If I've been slow to respond to emails, I apologize as there are a ton of
emails to get through and we're still organizing things for this summer~

Hola a todos,

¡Espero que hayan empezado el verano genial! Muchas cosas están floreciendo
y los arbustos que plantamos en primavera están dando un nuevo y abundante
crecimiento.

¡Quiero contarles sobre algunos eventos pasados y futuros!


*1. Plantación de árboles del Día de las Madres en West Lawn Park*
El 10 de mayo, celebramos nuestro Día de Plantación Comunitaria de
Primavera en West Lawn Park. Más de 25 personas vinieron a apoyar y
ayudaron a plantar 30 árboles, incluyendo algunos frente al pabellón
deportivo y detrás de la Escuela Primaria Lee, junto al patio de recreo.
¡Muchas gracias a todos los que vinieron! ¡Disfruten de algunas fotos a

*2. Pausa en WLCC*
Desafortunadamente, cuando el verano estaba empezando a florecer, perdimos
mucho impulso, ya que tuve que viajar a México durante la mayor parte de
mayo y junio debido a una emergencia familiar.

Mientras poco a poco vamos recuperando el ritmo, ¡prometemos tener una
increíble variedad de programas este verano!

Estuve en Guerrero, México, donde casi 300 especies de aves son endémicas,
lo que significa que solo se encuentran en esa región. Las áreas naturales
son enormes y la biodiversidad fue asombrosa. Vi más de 20 especies de
mariposas y polillas, ranas, sapos, colibríes que se acercaron a menos de
60 centímetros de mí, ¡y muchísimo más! Sé que podemos impulsar la
biodiversidad nativa en West Lawn en pocos años y espero con ansias
trabajar con ustedes.


*3. Jornadas de Conservación del Parque Marquette*
¡Estamos abordando nuestro PRIMER GRAN proyecto del verano con unas
jornadas de plantación comunitaria en el Parque Marquette! ¡Dos jornadas de
conservación en dos semanas para ayudar a embellecer el Parque Marquette!

¡Comienza este sábado!

*Dónde*: Nos encontramos detrás del pabellón deportivo del Parque Marquette.
*Qué*: Plantaremos 100 plantas nativas para impulsar la biodiversidad y
prevenir la erosión de la costa. Poda, observación de aves y limpieza
ligera el segundo día.
*Cuándo*: Sábado 12 y 26 de julio
10:00-12:00

RECORDATORIOS: ¡RECUERDA REGAR TU ÁRBOL RECIÉN PLANTADO ENTRE 15 Y 20
GALONES DE AGUA POR SEMANA! ¡INSTALAR UN BARRIL DE LLUVIA ES UNA EXCELENTE
MANERA DE AHORRAR DINERO Y AYUDAR AL MEDIO AMBIENTE!
