Hello Chicago Community Garden,

I hope all is well, I just wanted to reach out and see if your Club would be interested in having Commissioner Spyropoulos from MWRD come out and speak to your group.

Mariyana T. Spyropoulos who has been a Commissioner at the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago since 2009.  Commissioner Spyropoulos does speaking events to numerous groups educating them on the environmental aspects of what MWRDGC does and how important conservation of our greatest natural resource, water actually is.

You may already know that MWRD:

- is a $1.2 billion agency
- has 2,000 employees
- is over 130 years old (established in 1889)
- operates the world's largest water reclamation plant
- operates six other plants and 23 pumping stations

MWRD is an award-winning, special purpose government agency responsible for wastewater treatment and stormwater management. Our mission is to protect the health and safety of the public, the quality of the water supply source (Lake Michigan), improve and protect the quality of water in watercourses, protect businesses and homes from flood damages, and manage water as a vital resource.

Commissioner Spyropoulos usually presents for roughly 15 minutes and then takes up to 15 minutes of questions.  She has presented at High Schools, Senior Groups, Garden Clubs, Rotary Clubs, Lions, Kiwanis's and numerous Government agencies.
