Last Wednesday, we kicked off our Phased Reopening Plan welcoming Garfield Park Conservatory neighbors to enjoy nature in the outdoor gardens! July 8 - 12 is Member, Neighbor & Volunteer Week GPCA Members & Volunteers - you can book visits now for this special access week and beyond! Can we design space that has integrity for both the natural and social worlds? Join this important discussion guided by Toni Anderson, Curator of People and Planet Consciousness, as she helps us explore the idea of space equity, species migration and liberation. Toni Anderson is a southside Chicago native dedicated to healing and bringing equity to the spaces supporting and threatening climate & culture. Ms. Anderson is an urban ecologist, spiritualist and founder of Sacred Keepers Sustainability Lab and Mindful Rant, organizations dedicated to designed as vehicles for providing youth with the tools they need to be agents of mindful social/environmental change and proactive personal power. RSVP Virtual Summer Tree ID Walk - Friday, July 17 from 10am-11am CST Free; donations welcome Join us and Al De Reu of Openlands to learn about trees of beautiful and historic Garfield Park. We will go on a virtual walk with Al as he describes the trees, signs of spring, and what you can look for as you walk around your neighborhood. Questions are encouraged and will be facilitated throughout the experience.  Sign me up! Virtual Yoga 2nd & 4th Saturdays 9am-10am CST Free; donations welcome. Join us for more free yoga, live streamed from the Conservatory this month! Root down and stretch out from your own space. This class is open to all levels. Learn about tropical, edible plants in our collection like Bananas, Ginger, Papayas, Cinnamon, Coffee and more. Coloring Sheets Nature Games & Lesson Plans We'd love to know what resources you are enjoying at home. Share your photos or videos with us on social media by tagging us and use #GPCATHOME  FRESH FOOD FOR THE COMMUNITY Did you know our outdoor gardens include a Demonstration Garden? You can learn about community and organic gardening in Chicago in this beautiful city lot-sized working garden. Find space-saving and above-ground growing methods, composting information and a wide variety of flowers, herbs and vegetables.  The bulk of the produce grown here is donated to the Garfield Park Farmers Market - season opens Saturday, July 11! In addition to our public demonstration garden, the Alliance maintains a Giving Garden that also helps bring food access to Garfield Park. When we harvest on non-market days, we donate to local food pantries. In 2019, we donated over 1,600 pounds of fresh produce!
