Hello all,
With little advance notice unfortunately, yet happily we are once again
offered tickets to a performance by this wonderful group. Called, "Sight
and Sound: a Sonic Art Exhibition, March 9, 2020—7:30pm at SYMPHONY
CENTER. You can listen to sound bites of the music, a world-premiere
commission from composer Courtney Bryan created for “fearless violinist”
Jennifer Koh. This work, Syzygy, celebrates artists Frida Kahlo; Maya Lin,
designer of Vietnam War Memorial, and Alma Thomas, an African-American
Expressionist painter and art educator best known for her colorful abstract
paintings . This concert celebrates their cultural contributions to
society. Also they will be performing a piece you've surely heard at one
time or another, Mussorgsky/orch. Ravel Pictures at an Exhibition. More
clearly, the suite is Mussorgsky's most famous piano composition. It has
become more famously known through various orchestrations and arrangements
with Maurice Ravel's 1922 version for full symphony orchestra being by far
the most recorded and performed.
Here is a quote about the performance, "Other star violinists play concerts
largely devoted to music by dead, white European composers. Jennifer Koh
tackles ambitious contemporary projects designed to connect performers,
audiences and living composers in mutually beneficial ways." - Chicago
Tribune
Please get back to me by Wednesday 5 pm if you want tickets and state how
many.
Regards,
Lorraine
