at the MWRD
MWRD's Board of Commissioners passed a resolution in recognition of the 100th anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution which granted women the right to vote at the September 3rd meeting.

MWRD has the proud distinction of being the only Cook County legislative body a woman as its President and a majority of its Commissioners (6 of 9) also being women.
Resolution recognizing the 210th Anniversary of Mexican Independence
MWRD's Board of Commissioners passed a resolution in recognition of Mexico's 210th Year of Independence and in honor of the many wonderful contributions of Mexican Americans who enrich the United States both culturally and economically every day.

This was presented virtually to Ambassador Reyna Torres Mendivil, consul general of Mexico in Chicago. Mexican Independence Day is Sept. 16, marking the 210th anniversary of independence from Spain.
Next Regular Board Meeting on Thursday October 1st at 10:30 am
The Board of Commissioners will hold its Regular Board Meeting on Thursday October 1st at 10:30 am by video conference. This is due to the Governor's Stay at Home Order and to protect health and safety of the staff and public.  Meeting will be lived streamed and public participation is still encouraged during video meetings.

MWRD Small Streams Maintenance Program

One of MWRD's little know program's the Small Stream Maintenance Program had a team busy at work in Midlothian last month clearing trees that came down during storms on August 10th.

If left unattended, this debris could cause stream blockages and lead to flooding. Please help be our eyes by reporting blockages and debris in streams at

MWRD and the Juneteenth Holiday
Commissioner DuBuclet's letter to the editor of the Hyde Park Daily Herald  discussed the importance of the Juneteenth holiday and how MWRD became the largest governing body in the State of Illinois to offer its employees the opportunity of taking Juneteenth as an optional paid holiday for them to observe.
