[Communications] Group Volunteer Gardening Opportunities

Sarah and Amy,

Your list Sara names my neighborhood of East Lakeview as a top priority for
your focus on community gardening.  I am a member of the Lakeview Community
Garden at Diversey located in the park, and we have three sister gardens in
east Lakeview: the Fletcher Community Garden, 935 W. Fletcher and
established three years ago a community garden at  Roscoe and the Lakefront
Trail.  These are in the 44th ward.  There is also the third sister
garden located
just north of 2601 N Cannon Drive in Lincoln Park.with Kim Junkert, the
communications manager for Diversey Harbor Community Garden.

These gardens are small and not likely to host teams of volunteers as their
commitment to community engagement means they rely on volunteers from
within the garden membership  The exception may be the Diversey Harbor
Community garden.  They are in the second year of building their space and
have quite a way to go to complete building beds for the magnificent site
they have.

It occurred to me that a volunteer group interested in Lakeview and Lincoln
Park could work with the Lincoln Park Conservancy at the North Pond.  While
it isn't a community garden, it is green space dedicated to native
plantings and their restoration in Lincoln Park. They always need help to
plant seeds and seedlings, mulch trails and trees, weed out invasive or
overly aggressive plants, pick up trash, and even some tree pruning.
