This seasonal display showcases the fruits and flowers found in the still life paintings of African American artist Charles Ethan Porter (1847/49-1923); including sunflowers, corn, carnations, violets and much more. Hours: Wednesday, 10am-8pm; Thursday-Sunday, 10am-5pm Free; Donations appreciated A visit to the outdoor gardens this time of year is truly special. Come explore our 10 acres of nature, enjoy a picnic, experience the lily pool, and view the bountiful harvest in our Urban Demonstration Garden. So far this year we have donated 993 lbs of produce from our gardens to local markets. They will perform 'Sunlit', a musical exploration of humanity’s relationship with nature. Musical selections will explore the ever-present influence of the sun and its cycles, the seasons, animal life, and our inescapable need to take an active role in preserving nature. This lecture is a rigorous critique of the synthetic fertilizer industry, and will provide examples for fundamentally addressing soil/plant health while promoting climate resiliency in local ecosystems and agriculture. Presented in collaboration with Advocates for Urban Agriculture's Grow with Us Sessions. Virtual Intro To Xeric Air Plants Botanical Relief Printing - Virtual 6-Week Art Class Starts Tuesday, October 12; 6pm-8pm General Admission: $250 GPCA Member/Volunteer: $200 In this beginner’s printmaking class, artists will learn alongside printmaker-educator, Sarita Garcia, in all forms of relief printmaking, gathering inspiration through the vast plant life at Garfield Park Conservatory. Class available for ages 18+ and students must live in the Chicagoland area. A limited number of scholarships are available! Origami Open House Chicago Bonsai Club Wednesday, September 15 & October 20; 6pm-7:30pm Free Learn about the ancient art of growing bonsai from the Chicago Bonsai Club, a chapter of the Midwest Bonsai Society. You do not need a reservation to access the session. If you’d like to visit the Conservatory before or after joining this program, please book a reservation. Chicago Bonsai Club Ask a Master Gardener In Person Saturdays; 10:30am-1pm Free Most Saturdays (except holiday weekends), the University of Illinois Extension Ask a Master Gardener table is located at the Conservatory to answer your questions about plants. To access the table, you will need to book a reservation to the Conservatory. The community plaza is located at 4008 W. Madison Street and will be open from 11am-7pm, Tuesday-Saturday through the end of the summer!
