It's now available to watch through Apparatus Cinema. This 10 minute documentary filmed entirely at the Conservatory in 2019 follows the once-in-a-lifetime bloom of the Agave americana from the perspective of its caretaker, Ray. While the spectacular bloom was widely celebrated, it also signaled the end of its life cycle. Agave Watch 2022 We hope you've been following the bittersweet blooming process of the large Agave guiengola in the Desert House. We started the watch in early December and this several week long/months long process will be the “swan song” for the plant. We have named her "Guien" pronounced "Gwen". Follow us on social media and see our Instagram story highlight "Agave Watch" for updates. Pictured here is Guien on December 20, 2021 when the flowering stalk (quiote) measured 59 1/2 inches.
