MWRD Awards 7 Municipalities
Green Infrastructure Funding
============================================================
MWRD engineers evaluated 32 proposals ranking the eligible projects based on factors, such as the total retention gallons and cost per gallon, number of benefiting structures and cost per structure, median income of the community, project visibility and outreach, flooding prevalence, maintenance capability, and separate or combined sewer area that caters to both sanitary and stormwater. ,
Construction for the projects range in price from $89,000 to $1.5 million, each benefiting a range of nearby structures, from five to as many as 138. Combined, these seven projects will mitigate flooding for 466 structures and provide the capacity to retain more than 800,000 gallons of water per rain event.
President Steele and the Board of Commissioners would like to thank all of the local governments and community partners for submitting applications, introducing their plans and sharing in MWRD's mission to protect our water environment.

The Plastic Bag Store
Chicago Tour
The Plastic Bag Store is a exhibit uses humor, craft, and a critical lens to question our culture of consumption and convenience - specifically, the enduring effects of our single-use plastics. The shelves are stocked with thousands of original, hand-sculpted items - produce and meat, dry goods and toiletries, cakes and sushi rolls - all made from discarded, single-use plastics in an endless cacophony of packaging.
The store transforms itself to highlight the overabundance of plastic waste we leave behind might be misinterpreted by future generations. This installation raises important questions about our addiction to plastics and our responsibility to future generations to find solutions now.
The Plastic Bag Store can be seen at the Chicago International Puppet Theater Festival from January 20-30, 2022. For more information about ticket pricing and tour times please visit their website ** The Plastic Bag Store (https://www.theplasticbagstore.com/)
