** Our Fight to Protect the Clean Water Act Must Continue
------------------------------------------------------------
I recently wrote an OP-ED for the Chicago Defender (https://chicagodefender.com/op-ed-our-fight-to-protect-the-clean-water-act-must-continue/) , celebrating and highlighting the 50th anniversary of the Clean Water Act (https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/presidential-actions/2022/10/17/a-proclamation-on-the-50th-anniversary-of-the-clean-water-act/#:~:text=BIDEN%20JR.%2C%20President%20of%20the,of%20the%20Clean%20Water%20Act.) .

Space to Grow Ribbon Cutting
I recently attended the ribbon cutting at Coles School on the east side of Chicago to showcase MWRD's latest partnership with the Space to Grow initiative, Space to Grow is Chicago's green schoolyards program, a partnership led by the Healthy Schools Campaign and Openlands with public capital investment from Chicago Public Schools, the Chicago Department of Water Management, and MWRD.

Space to Grow schoolyards provides a space for active play and outdoor learning while using green infrastructure to build climate resilience and reducing local basement flooding.

For more information about MWRD's partnership with CPS and Chicago's Department of Water Management, please click on the following link Space 2 Grow. (https://www.spacetogrowchicago.org/about/about-space-to-grow/)

Schuth’s Grove Ribbon Cutting
I was proud to join MWRD President Kari Steele and fellow Commissioner Spyropoulous and Cook
County Board President Toni Preckwinkle for the Ribbon Cutting at Schuth's Grove.

Thanks to MWRD support, the new permeable parking lot at Schuth's Grove will be able to store more than 110k gallons of rain when it storms, mitigating flooding for the residents of Riverside and surrounding communities.
Omni Ecosystem Visit
My team and I toured Omni Ecosystems in the Bronzeville Community to learn more about how to
build and maintain green infrastructure spaces.

Omni has built many green infrastructure spaces
throughout the Chicagoland area.

For example, Omni built and maintains the green infrastructure at McDonald's new corporate headquarters and McDonald's flagship restaurant in Chicago's Fulton Market community.
All Things Water Fireside Chat
I had the opportunity to moderate a fireside chat with Seth M. Siegel, the Chief Sustainability Officer at N-Drip.

The discussion focused on his recently released book Let There Be Water. Speaking with Seth was fun and very informative.

The Green Neighbor Guide
Learn how to keep your rain barrel in good condition. Read the MWRD's The Green Neighbor Guide for information on rain barrel maintenance, including how to prepare your barrel for the winter.
