Reaching out today with a quick call to action, to uplift racial equity in
the upcoming Farm Bill! (This opportunity is a part of a broader week of

Today's call to action is to call both Illinois Senators and your
Representative about the *Justice for Black Farmers Act *(JBFA; H.R.1167
<https://www.congress.gov/bill/118th-congress/house-bill/1167?s=1&r=141> /
S.96 <https://www.congress.gov/bill/118th-congress/senate-bill/96>) which
recognizes the history of discrimination within the USDA against Black
farmers and ranchers and seeks to correct and prevent further
discrimination in the federal agriculture system. The bill brings critical
reforms to the USDA, enacts policies to protect against land loss, and
reinvests in existing and aspiring Black farmers. For more information,

I am calling as part of a Week of Action organized by the Chicago Food
Policy Action Council to ask your office to support the Justice for Black
Farmers Act (H.R.1167 / S.96) in the 2023 Farm Bill. Farming is hard and
noble work that is necessary for feeding our country, yet Black farmers
historically and currently are denied the financial support and land access
needed to pursue this honorable profession. It’s time for the Farm Bill to
end discrimination in agricultural policy and within government agencies!
