Hello all!

I’m so sorry for the delay – I recently got my wisdom teeth removed. 😃 Thank you Lorraine for the connection! And nice to meet you Mrs. Shelton-Turner!

Openlands unfortunately is unable to build new gardens, and our grants are currently limited to schools we’ve built gardens at, but hopefully something in this email can help:

  * We do offer professional development that is open to all. We will have a vegetable gardening workshop on March 25. I’ll share the registration form with you as soon as we pin down all of the details!
  * If you’re interested in trees being a part of your garden, Openlands has the TreePlanters Grant<https://openlands.org/what-we-do/trees/treeplanters-grants/> which can bring 10-40 trees to your campus. Application is rolling.
  * The Whole Kids Foundation has a $3000 grant<http://www.wholekidsfoundation.org/> for edible gardens that is due March 1.
  * To build a new garden on CPS grounds, reach out to gardenteam at cps.edu<mailto:gardenteam at cps.edu> so they can conduct a site visit, sign off, and help you think through your options of where and how a garden would thrive on your grounds. CPS also has recently developed an awesome guide<https://docs.google.com/document/d/1S8l3oZcPiv1GjSFWC0uckNuEQOR0BhkbAoDSwkAvZuo/edit> that would be good to peruse in the meantime.
  * We also partner on a program with other garden educators that provides classrooms with 1 gallon grow bags<https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1ZJVMu7eDN2YTlDkimCkGqkpaW0BFg5CvvfsFwGj2eJY/edit?usp=sharing> for each student that you can use in the classroom, or students can take them home. They’re small enough to grow microgreens or baby greens on a window sill. We’re about to roll out applications for this very soon, so let me know if this is of interest as well.
  * Finally, we are planning an educator-focused summit<https://www.cps.edu/campaigns/green-growing-summit/> on May 6 that’s all about school gardens and beyond.

Please let me know if you have any questions!

Peace,
Danielle

Hi
Just saw this. I’d like to share that there will be a seed share and informational event with one school from Beverly-Sutherland discussing their school garden. March 25th. I’ll share the flyer.

Hello,

We congratulate your decision to start a garden at Bret Harte Elem. and it's our hope to see you fully supported. To begin, yes a gardening project requires a lot of work, and the learning has started with your interest and continues year round, year after year.

I recommend you and Danielle Russell, who is copied on this email, start a conversation. Danielle is the school garden coordinator at Openlands. Their program is the best place to begin for workshops and grants. They also have run a volunteer program to bring people into school gardens.

CCGA can help supply your garden with seeds and vegetable and herb seedlings in large groupings ready to go in the ground throughout the seasons. You will find pollinator attractive plants as well. We hold these distributions to supply community and school gardens and workshops with a minimal fee ($5) or free once your garden has broken ground.

I haven't gone into enough detail to thoroughly handle your request, so please feel free to stay in touch with all of us are CCGA. It's a start.

Best
Lorraine Kells, Co-chair,

Good Afternoon,
I would love to start a gardening project with students at Bret Harte school, however, I know there is a lot to learn about gardening. I notice you all have volunteers that support this work, my hope is to partner with someone who can help us grow a beautiful garden at Bret Harte School. I would like an opportunity to discuss this further with you. I look forward to hearing from you soon.
