Star Farm June Updates!

     Star Farm Hosts Spring Planting Fest!

*This past weekend Star Farm held our annual Spring Planting fest for
neighborhood residents. The event was a huge success! With the help of our
friends who brought the Hungry Hungry Caterpillar, families in the
neighborhood got to indulge in some free seedlings and a puppet show!!*
         Our Associate Board Mixer Was Wonderful!

We held our very first Associate Board Mixer at Whiner Brewery and had
several people turn out! We discussed involvement with Star Farm, the
services we offer, and all sat for deep discussion on ways to collaborate!

We are thankful for our Star Farm board members and staff that came out to
help and inform people about the wonderful things all Star Farm has to
offer!

Our Artist In Residence, Mario Mena—Gives Our Pilot Store A Facelift!

We are proud to have our Artist in Residence Mario Mena beautify another
site with Star Farm. He gave this storefront a pretty neat facelift! Come
see it as you drive by 51st & Ashland! See his other works by visiting our
Carpenter & 52nd farm site too!

Help Star Farm Fundraise A Refrigerated Van

*The farm is in need of a refrigerated van that will allow us to take on a
greater number of food deliveries, maximize our efficiency, and altogether
grow to a greater capacity and help more people. The weather is warming
with each day, meaning more and more produce will need to be delivered, at
an ever quicker pace to maintain safe-handling procedures. *

*We are almost halfway through our GoFundMe goal of $5000. Follow the link

You can volunteer Monday - Friday this season!

*There are a million reasons to volunteer on a farm, and they’re just about
all good ones. Whether you want to reconnect with the earth, learn new
skills, or just spend a morning in your body under the sun, Star Farm wants
to support you, while you help support us. Drop-in Volunteer Sessions will
be held Mondays through Fridays from 9 AM - 1 PM. You can also sign up for
a recurring shift throughout the week. *

Star Farm & Swedish Hospital Team Up!

Swedish Hospital overhauled and unveiled a community garden, planting a
variety of produce to help employees and neighbors eat healthier. Luckily,
Star Farm was there to help every step of the way!

     Wholesale Partnership Success

*Another month, another series of successful deliveries. *

*Star Farm has continued three of our most prized relationships, our
wholesale partnerships with Casa Catalina and New Eclipse Community
Alliance, two incredible groups who form part of the Greater Chicago Food
Depository; as well as our partnership with Local Foods.*

*This weekend we partnered with BYNC and gave away about 500lbs of produce
to our community members in addition to hosting a healthy cooking demo!*

         Spring Garden Build Updates!

Karim our lead construction manager sits on his newbuild pergola for a
community resident.

*Are you ready to grow your own green spring? Whether it’s a
capacity-increasing greenhouse or raised beds in a backyard, our
construction team will make quick work of the task.  Our personalized
landscaping consultations begin as low as $50 for non-profits and $75 for
homeowners and all other organizations.*

Bees Have Arrived At Star Farm!

*Our Farm Production Manager Guadalupe has been working vigorously to home
our new bees! She alongside with our Star Farm staff prepped the bee hives
by slapping some fresh paint and securing them down! *
Chicago Commons Pop-Ups Have Commenced!

*There is something special about a team of people working together for the
greater good. The common purpose brings them all together, and they carry
that bond with them for the weeks to come. Star Farm has begun its pop-up
farmers market across all four Chicago Commons locations in the city! They
will continue on through September!*

across town sharing free produce and paletas along the way! Ask us about

Star Farm x Chicago Park District Team Up for 2023!
Star Farm Chicago and The Chicago Park District have teamed up this year
and we will be bringing the produce to the parks! We have selected four (4)
Chicago Park District Locations for our mobile farmers market pop-up
series!

Star Farm will be at the following four locations from 3:30PM - 5:00PM on
both Thursdays and Fridays starting in June!

Sherman Park and McKinley Park Thursdays starting June 29th - August 3rd

Cornell Park and Brighton Park Fridays starting June 30th - August 4th
