Jessica,
Both the Morton Arboretum and the Chicago Botanic Garden have advised
gardeners on what has been happening weather wise with shrubs, trees, and
plants, and how new and established growing things are affected by it all.
We can't add much to their expert's advice, but how do our gardeners in
Chicago deal with these weather and climate events? What we at CCGA can
say is that Chicago community gardeners are in the midst of it all, day to
day erratic weather, unanticipated seasonal changes, plant diseases and
pests proliferating, rain pelting our gardens, but our gardeners are
acutely aware and they're responding. There are more seed swaps than ever
to introduce hardy varieties better suited to Chicago and while there
gardeners share expertise and have hard conversations. Gardeners are a
stubborn lot and closely watch for what nature gives them.
Hope this is what you're looking for
