Update on the 2024 Governors Budget Priorities
==============================================

February has been an important month for the General Assembly. Governor J.B. Pritzker recently gave the Annual State of the State and the Budget Address to the General Assembly. I wanted to take the time to write to all of you about the important ways the Governor plans to prioritize investment in our local communities for 2024. I am proud to support Governor Pritzker in his mission to provide both Illinois families and communities with essential support.

Specifically, I have always advocated for the critical importance of education. The Governor shares in this belief and plans to expand early childhood education, particularly in historically underserved communities. This commitment to education also materializes in $1 Billion in new funding for elementary and high schools as well as $100 Million in new funding for college financial aid. Guaranteeing the future of our youth remains a crucial mission of mine in the 5th District.

Beyond a concrete commitment to education, the address highlights an emphasis on community programs and community driven initiatives. Here in the General Assembly we recognize that our diverse communities make Illinois unique and provide our greatest source of strength. As such, the Governor believes in investing in start-ups and new businesses to promote economic growth from the ground up. Paired with these business initiatives is $46 Million toward youth employment and a focus on financing local after-school programs. Economically vibrant and safe communities are high on the list of priorities for Illinois in 2024.

The Governor and I both recognize that not everyone in our communities has access to the same opportunities. That is why it remains necessary to spearhead new infastructure projects in historically disadvantaged communities and earmark funds towards homelessness prevention. I strongly believe in uplifting all people in Illinois, including those seeking asylum, and wholeheartedly agree these initiatives will best address the need of all those living in my district and the broader state.

Best,

Kimberly DuBuclet
