[Communications] {AUA} Part-time Farmer Position Available

Position: Part-time Grower at Growing Solutions Farm 

Length of contract: May through October 

Scheduling: flexible days, 24 hours per week

Reports to: Farm Operations Manager, Executive Director

Urban Autism Solutions <https://www.urbanautismsolutions.com/> (UAS) is 
dedicated to changing outcomes for young adults with Autism Spectrum 
Disorder (ASD)  and related challenges through an integrated community life 
that advances social and vocational opportunities. At Growing Solutions 
Farm (GSF), impacted students (ages 16-22) from west side Chicago public 
high schools learn transferable job and life skills through sustainable 
agriculture while building a lasting community.

The position pays $16.80/hour and is a weekly position for 24 hours a week 
from May-October 2024. 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

   - 
   
   Customer service -  at the Wednesday and Friday on-site farmstand, and 
   off-site at the monthly market located at the Old Post Office. (A work 
   vehicle is available for off-site responsibilities.)
   - 
   
   Food safety and sanitation - cleaning washables, walk-in cooler, and 
   wash-pack, packing produce.
   - 
   
   Transportation - moving produce as needed to markets and wholesale 
   clients. (A work vehicle is available for off-site responsibilities.)
   - 
   
   Landscaping  - lawn mowing, weed wacking, and maintenance. 
   - 
   
   Horticulture - Basic knowledge of plant biology, pruning, harvesting is 
   essential. 
   - 
   
   Assist with preparations for special events and activities. 
   - 
   
   Representation of UAS and GSF to the general public through customer 
   service skills, knowledge of organizational mission. 
   - 
   
   Other duties as assigned. 
   

Requirements:

   - 
   
   Ability to pass a background check
   - 
   
   Understanding of the UAS mission, its programs and services (training 
   will be provided)
   - 
   
   Ability to lift at least 30 pounds
   - 
   
   Ability to work alongside diverse learners, CPS teachers and 
   paraprofessionals, and collaborate with UAS staff 
   - 
   
   Communication with program participants, general public, customers, staff
   - 
   
   Ability to respond to correspondence (email and phone) in a timely manner
   - 
   
   Ability to use computer, iPad, and Google Platforms
   - 
   
   Ability to be organized and focused in a fast-paced environment
   - 
   
   Experience in urban agriculture a plus, but not required
