January Updates From the 5th District
=====================================

I hope you had a wonderful winter holiday season filled with joy, friends and family. As we close out the first month of the new year, let's reflect on the many things we have to be grateful for and what we can continue to improve upon this year.

The Illinois House of Representatives recently concluded its very first week of session for the 2024 legislative year. Now, more than ever, I am committed to standing up for our families and passing legislative action that uplifts our communities. If you have any questions about legislation or other events in Springfield, please do not hesitate to contact my office with questions or concerns.

Best,

Kimberly DuBuclet

State Representative-5th District

Legislative Initiatives
-----------------------

I've already begun the new legislative session by filing measures that will improve our communities:

HB 4571 - Our small business still have not fully recovered from the pandemic, so I filed this bill to make sure that they get their fair share of govt. help This bill stipulates that at least half of the dollar amount of all state business incentives must go to small businesses(employ 50 or less people).

HB 4319 - Climate change is real and disproportionately affecting Black and Brown communities at an alarming rate. That's why I introduced legislation that will require climate change instruction in all of our public schools

HB 4368 - I also filed legislation that will require the state to produce a paper preregistration form to get more young people to the polls.

HB 4297 - To protect our communities from mass shootings and provide real-time updates, I am working in tandem with ISP to develop an alert system that will help coordinate resources to respond to these incidents.

HB 4159 - To help foster growth in Illinois' $100 billion tourism industry, I introduced a bill to create a statewide Commission on Tourism

HB 4116 - A bill that will make Emmett Till's birthday a holiday in Illinois.

I had a great time at the Chicago Children's Advocacy Center alongside my fellow Reps. Lindsey LaPointe and Edgar Gonzalez. We, children's advocates and other stakeholders discussed what the state can do to make children safer in Illinois.

On Jan. 11, I received an award from the Chicago Urban League that recognized my commitment to the Black community. Throughout my career in public service, I have consistently chosen to stand up for us and advocate for policies that will help us succeed. Thank you, Chicago Urban League!
