Annual Updates From the 5th District
====================================
Happy Mother's Day to all of the hardworking moms in our community! I wanted to send out a special message this Monday in honor of my one year anniversary in office. This date is a great time to reflect on everything we have accomplished over the past year and look forward to what is yet to come.
The bedrock of all of my advocacy efforts this past year have been each of you and your families. A large part of what I enjoy about my role is connecting with my community. In the effort to continue to do so, I drafted a comprehensive community survey with my team. The goal of this survey is to hear from all of YOU and how I can best represent your interests. I implore all of you to take the time to send in your feedback. I can only represent you effectively with your help.
Best,
Kimberly DuBuclet

Legislative Summary
-------------------
Throughout this legislative session I have worked on several key bills to help improve the lives of residents in our local community and Illinois at large. These bills range from advocating for the interests of youth in the foster care system to reforming how the Illinois EPA monitors water quality. Below are short descriptions of some of the most impactful legislation I have worked on this year:
HB5097: The Bill amends the Children and Family Services Act to ensure all youth have a Haircare plan which takes into account their own wishes and desired connection to their culture, gender, and identity.
HB5421: This Bill amends the Rivers, Lakes, and Streams Act to require a report on water conditions in Lake Michigan to be presented to the governor and General Assembly twice a year. This aims to increase the monitoring and oversight of Lake Michigan's water quality.
HB4783: This bill amends the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District Act to adjust the required amount for a competitive bid, thus increasing their ability to maneuver.
HB4784: The bill makes important changes to the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District Act and requires a licensed health care professional to certify employees before they receive a disability benefit.
I am excited to continue advocating for important legislative changes in Springfield for the next two weeks. Please reach out to [rep5information at gmail.com](mailto:rep5information at gmail.com) if you have any questions or concerns.
