We have been working in partnership with the Chicago Park District to implement this change to help with increased operational costs due to our rise in attendance. In 2023, we welcomed over 325,000 visitors from all 50 states! This 25% increase over pre-pandemic visitor traffic shows us that the demand is high for connecting with nature across our 12 acres of indoor and outdoor gardens in Garfield Park. In addition to funding operational costs related to increased visitation, a portion of the revenue will be invested in an endowment to fund facility improvements to ensure the Conservatory is here for another 100+ years to connect and inspire the next generation of environmental stewards. This is in addition to the $10 million in capital projects already underway, including the EMG Children’s Garden, the Child Wild Exploration Garden, and the Lobby renovation. We will continue to offer free programs year-round, including concerts, workshops, and 16 hours of free nature education programs weekly. We will also continue to offer our Urban Roots Teen Environmental Justice program, urban agriculture & community gardening programs, as well as all the other programs that make a visit to the Garfield Park Conservatory & Gardens so special.
