This virtual farm tour and live-streamed discussion will show you the past, present and future of battery-electric equipment led by Reid Allaway of Tourne-Sol Co-operative Farm and Thiessen Tillage Equipment.
Reid will provide history and context for the current state of the market for both commercially available and DIY options to electrify farm machinery, tools and vehicles.

A video tour of Tourne-sol’s fleet of electric machinery will demonstrate real world functionality and the benefits of working with battery-electric power.

Reid Allaway is an experienced vegetable farmer and
resident machinery nut at Tourne-Sol co-operative
farm in les Cedres, Quebec, Canada. The farm,
founded as a workers’ coop by Allaway and 4 friends in
2005 now employs 10 members + 8 staff and manages
15 acres, producing organic vegetables for 500 weekly
CSA shares and organic seeds for online sales and
display racks throughout Quebec and eastern Canada.

Reid started working on DIY electrical conversions
and small EVs for the farm around 2017 when good
lithium batteries became available at prices farmers
could afford. Since then, Tourne-Sol has replaced all
small engines with battery-electric drive systems and
the farm now boasts around 10 small electric machines
and an all-electric delivery truck. Reid recently began
working with Thiessen Tillage Equipment and Tilmor
(in the United States) to help develop commercial
offerings of electric 2- and 4-wheel cultivating tractors.
