Tucker from Advocates for Urban Agriculture here,

If you didn't know, AUA assists growers with all sorts of water-related
resources: food safety, worker hygiene, irrigation, and water access to
name a few. Frequently, we're helping Chicago growers get access to water
from hydrants for the growing season. Applying for a *Hydrant Use Permit
(HUP) <https://hup.betterstrongersaferchicago.org/#/home> *is a long,
difficult process for a lot of growers--unfortunately, some start the
process and never make it through it due to factors like accessibility,
cost, compliance, and the city's prohibitive requirements.

We put together a couple of guides to help with the process:
*Grower's Guide for Hydrant Permit Policy for 2025
<https://www.auachicago.org/news/chicago-growers-guide-2025-hydrant-use-permit-policy>*
*Growers Guide for Custodian Caps for 2025*
<https://www.auachicago.org/news/chicago-growers-guide-2025-custodian-caps>

I get it, it is 28°F here in Chicago, snow is coming down, and the growing
season seems far away, but, I promise, it is not too early to get started
on your 2025 hydrant use permit.

For technical assistance with the HUP, custodian caps, and all agricultural
water-related concerns, you can reach us at *water at auachicago.org. *
