On the final day of an art exhibit entitled “The Broken Silence,” the flamboyant artists, collectors, browsers, and curators—and the security guards who watch over it all—create their own zany pieces of art in this visual, verbal, and musical feast by legendary American absurdist Tina Howe. FEBRUARY 21 - MARCH 25 Chicago premier of a new musical by the acclaimed Gabriel Kahane Music and lyrics by Gabriel Kahane Story by Seth Bockley Directed by Seth Roseman February House, an inventive new musical by acclaimed composer and songwriter Gabriel Kahane, hailed as “one of the finest songwriters of the day” by The New Yorker, transforms a dilapidated Brooklyn boardinghouse into a bohemian commune. During the early days of World War II, flamboyant fiction editor George Davis brings together poet W. H. Auden, novelist Carson McCullers, composer Benjamin Britten, and burlesque darling Gypsy Rose Lee in a communal utopian experiment. Based on the biography by Sherill Tippins, February House looks at how the residents of 7 Middagh Street create a tumultuous and remarkable makeshift family searching for love, inspiration, and refuge from the looming war in Europe. Jeffrey and Gabriel Kahane Duo Saturday, January 25, 7:30 p.m. Galvin Recital Hall, Evanston Father and son come together for a one of a kind concert of classical piano and original singer-songwriter pieces. GET TICKETS Pianist, conductor, and scholar Jeffrey Kahane is in the fifth decade of an expansive and versatile career that has included concertos with the New York Philharmonic and San Francisco Symphony, and recitals with Yo-Yo Ma and Joshua Bell. His son Gabriel Kahane, a musician, storyteller, and composer has been commissioned by the Brooklyn Academy of Music, Carnegie Hall, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and the Public Theater, which in 2012 presented his musical February House. Gabriel Kahane has worked with an array of artists including Paul Simon, Sufjan Stevens, Andrew Bird, Phoebe Bridgers, Caroline Shaw, and Chris Thile. The father son performance includes music by J. S. Bach, Franz Schubert, and Gabriel Kahane.
