Hi AUA!

This is Gavi and Isa ~ two dancer farmers building home in Illinois on
ancestral lands of Kickapoo, Peoria, Kaskaskia, Myaamia, Potawatomi, and
Ochethi Sakowin peoples.

We're writing to invite you to the second annual Landing Movement Festival
<http://landingmovement.org/> at Zumwalt Acres <http://zumwaltacres.org/>,
exploring how dance can help us foster deep, right relationships with land
and each other. So much has accelerated in the world since our first
gathering last August, when we hosted about 60 participants for a weekend
including forest walks and discussions on “routes” and “roots” in our
ancestry, a breakdancing workshop, a beautiful performance of new dance
works against the sunset, making new friends over farm meals and campfires,
and more. Learn more + check out photos/videos from Landing 2024 here
<https://www.landingmovement.org/festival2024>. With the heart-wrenching
violence humans are committing against other humans and against entire
ecosystems all around us, the work we’re doing together feels more urgent
than ever. We wanted to extend a heartfelt invitation to join us for
Landing 2025 <https://forms.gle/ABsYCPiFN9xTrFRP8> (RSVP by July 4!), which
will take place August 8-10 at Zumwalt Acres.

The festival this year will take place at Zumwalt Acres
<http://zumwaltacres.org/>, a regenerative farm and community in Sheldon,
IL, and will include all kinds of dancing, learning, dialogue, singing,
playing, performance, farm meals, camping, and community building. Find
more information and register for the festival here
<https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdcElFpk9OWdJ_zN0YfAZlZimA6xmy_ycFr7UBcHoGaxVUAyQ/viewform?usp=header>
ASAP and before July 4, 2025. Registration will be capped once we reach
capacity. Not ready to register? Fill out this interest form
<https://forms.gle/pvpd1YogoKh42w6D7> to receive email updates and stay
connected. Check out our website <http://landingmovement.squarespace.com/>
for more information.

In July, we will hold virtual learning sessions that will lay the
groundwork for our explorations. The festival will bring us together for a
weekend of connection and movement. Later in August, we will hold a virtual
closing gathering that will start the process of integrating our learnings
into our everyday lives. You are welcome to join for any or all of these
offerings.

The overarching questions that guide this project include:

   -

What does it mean to have deep, reciprocal relationships with land —
lands we currently live on, lands that we were raised with, lands that we
call home, lands we're ancestrally connected to, and lands that we aren't?
   -

How can dance and movement be a way to build these relationships?
   -

How can settlers pursue this work while pursuing Indigenous justice and
   sovereignty?

Questions that will activate our gatherings include:

   -

What do you know about the land you live on (the actual soil, the beings
that make it up, its ways and histories, the people who have stewarded it)?
   -

How do you fit into the land’s histories?
   -

What rituals and ways of honoring and being in relationship to land have
you been disconnected from in your ancestry? Which are you connected to?

We believe that every person with a body is a dancer, and that to move with
intention is to dance. Come dance with us, and share with any friends who
may be interested!

This festival is the result of hard work by our volunteer team, Zumwalt
Acres’ soils, the wisdom of our collaborators and mentors, and longstanding
bodies of scholarship. But we also need monetary help so we can build
performance infrastructure and support the artists who are coming to
perform and facilitate workshops. If you would like to support us by
donating $20 (or any amount!), click here
<https://www.goodpeoplefund.org/how-can-you-help/mitzvah-donate/> to make a
tax deductible donation to the festival of any amount (processed through
our partner organization, The Good People Fund. Please include a note
indicating that the donation is for "Zumwalt Acres Landing 2025."). Or
Zelle/Venmo us directly to zumwaltacres at gmail.com / @zumwalt-acres. Seven
percent of all donations we receive will go directly to Indigenous-led land
justice organizations. Thank you for considering supporting us in this way.

We are so excited to connect with you in this work, in whatever form is
right! Please reach out with any questions! Hope to see you in August.

With love,

Gavi Welbel & Isa Zou
