I hope you're enjoying the wonderful weather! This past week, I had the honor of welcoming Reverend Wheeler Parker Jr. to Springfield as we work to pass HB2755, a bill I introduced to establish a commemorative Emmett Till Day in Illinois. This legislation will ensure that Emmett Till’s legacy continues to educate future generations and inspire the ongoing fight for justice and equality.

At the same time, I remain committed to pushing back against executive overreach in Washington, ensuring that decisions impacting our communities are made with transparency and accountability. Here at home, I also want to highlight the Chicago Loop Alliance’s efforts to enhance our downtown district, fostering economic growth and a vibrant cultural scene.

It was my honor to welcome Reverend Wheeler Parker down to Springfield to testify on HB2755 that would establish a commemorative Emmet Till Day memorializing. As one of the last people to see Till before his murder his testimony proved to be invaluable, as we work on ensuring people do not forget that critical history that is so close to home. 

March marks Women's History Month, and I am grateful to the leadership of Speaker Welch bringing together my colleagues and recognizing their impact as women, and the vital role they play in equitable politics. To the right of that is myself in Springfield, last we had six bills passed out of committee and I look forward to working those into law.

**Cleared for Takeoff: May 1 Airport Expo and Job Fair**

Find contracting and employment opportunities at O’Hare and Midway airports at the Chicago Department of Aviation’s Airport Expo and Job Fair, free for attendees on Thursday, May 1 at the UIC Forum, 725 W. Roosevelt Road. 

Business representatives will recruit candidates to fill cargo, concessions, construction, security and other positions at all experience levels — with some hiring on the spot! Small business owners will learn how to obtain city certification and enter the airport business.

NASCAR Community Engagement

NASCAR will be hosting a community engagement meeting on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. CT to share information about the 2025 Chicago Street Race Weekend. 
Representatives from NASCAR, the City of Chicago, the Chicago Park District, and others will be present and respond to questions from the community.

USPS Updates

USPS Services in the 20th Ward have been a growing concern, and now the community will come together to create solutions. If you have any new ideas, questions, or concerns about USPS in the 20th Ward show up on Saturday March 29th from 12:00PM to 2:00PM at the Washington Park Field House on 5531 S. King Drive!

The Illinois Psychiatric Society is hosting the 3rd annual Carl C. Bell, MD Memorial Essay competition as a community initiative for all Illinois High School Students. Awarded recipient will receive a $500 cash prize and their submission will be presented at the 2025 IPS Annual Meeting. Submissions due May 15th, 2025.
