Hello,

I am following up on Amy's email and the request received by Communications received this morning. As the forwarded email states, the grant is state funding, up to $50,000 per church to be used as a resource for creating a garden or expanding an existing garden. We have been asked to advise and assist on this project. In speaking with Dan Blair, I was able to identify only that the position of advisor(s) is not funded by the state although any of the churches may make an in kind or monetary donation to CCGA from their grant funds. Not that this is important, it just needed to be clarified. We already have on-line resources and can advise via phone and email to remain COVID safe.

The 8 - 10 Chicago churches have already been identified and are in the process of submitting proposals to the state. CCGA does not have the names of these churches. It is unlikely that a church without an existing garden will be able to set up an operating garden by 12/20, but it is expected that the garden could be able to function in spring of 2021. I did mention the necessity of land acquisition must be in hand. Churches with existing gardens must propose how they will utilize the resource money. That part may or may not involve our technical advice and assistance. That piece of our participation has yet to be clarified. I am working with the state and the person in charge of this to get you more information.

Stay tuned, but please do express your interest and any further concerns to forward to the person in charge.

Lorraine

---------- Forwarded message ---------
From: Blair, Dan via Communications <communications@chicagocommunitygardens.org>
Date: Wed, Jul 29, 2020, 9:06 AM
Subject: [Communications] Chicago Community Gardens Project
To: communications@chicagocommunitygardens.org <communications@chicagocommunitygardens.org>
Cc: Steward, Michael <Michael.Steward@illinois.gov>, Sanchez-Jones, Eva <Eva.Sanchez-Jones@illinois.gov>

12/20/2020) one time grants to up to 10 Chicago Churches to set up, or expand community gardens. We are looking for a Technical Advisor that could assist and advise the churches and wondered if the Chicago Community Gardeners Association could help with this
initiative. Please let me know if your agency would able to help, or if you have suggestions of other resources that you would suggest. Please feel free to call me at 217-494-7753 to discuss. Thank You.
