FREE Mixed Orange and Pale Yellow Daylilies Available this Weekend!
The CCGA Resources Committee has another mini-distribution lined up for community gardeners on Saturday, April 24, from 10am-Noon at Loomis St. Community Garden.
Thanks to a generous donation, we have open crates of mixed orange and pale, yellow daylilies available on a first come first served basis for transplanting into your garden. While these are popular flowers, they are not native and can naturalize in your garden, so they are best used in a periphery space with rock borders or in new gardens. The daylily is a large perennial, so you can even plant it in a large container of at least 5 liters. The farmer making the donation, Tracey Vowel of Three Sisters Garden, produces these flowers for restaurants and emphasizes that the entire plant is edible. Check-out this PBS piece with a recipe for daylily fritters!
The garden is located at Adams & Loomis on the north side of 1400 W. Adams next to the running track. It looks like we could have some rain on Saturday, so we’ve set a rain date of Sunday, April 25 at the same time, same place. Please note, there is NO REGISTRATION REQUIRED – NO FEE. This event is open to all gardeners! Stop by before or after your Earth Day event and please remember to bring your own bag or box.
