Thousands of Plants To Community Gardens
Fall Distribution Recap
Under a cloudless autumn Chicago sky, thousands of plants were laid out in a grid at New Horizons Community Garden. The CCGA Resources and Distributions Team oversaw the team of volunteers that worked diligently to unload and organize and then load the groupings of plants into waiting vehicles.
We want to thank Scott Byron & Co. for coordinating with the growers, receiving all the donated plant material at the Scott Byron workplace, loading it into two large trucks, and bringing it to New Horizons. Also a big thank you to all the growers who donated plant material: Scott Byron & Co., Elite Growers, Hoffie Nursery, Hortech, Inc., Intrinsic Perennials, Montale Nursery and Twixwood Nursery. All of these businesses have been donating plants to Chicago community gardens for many years.
We also want to thank Chicago Cares for their generous donation of tools and equipment that were distributed to all who attended.
The total donation was approximately 3,200 plants and shrubs, and 74 community gardens participated in the distribution.
