DESCRIPTION: \nThe University of Illinois Extension is partnering with Grace Seeds Ministry to offer a free Food Safety Training for all participants of Chicagoland community food systems. \n  \nMarch 12\, 2016 (9:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.) \n Safe and Smart! “Food Safety\, Post-Harvest Handling\, and Scheduling Plantings for Community Food Systems” \n@ two locations \n\nFirst United Methodist Church of Oak Lawn – 100th & Central Ave.\, Oak Lawn\nWebinar viewing location: 826 S Ada Street\, Chicago. 60607\n\n  \nFree Training. Morning snack and light lunch included. \n  \nUniversity of IL Extension Local Food Systems and Small Farms educator Zack Grant will cover steps urban scale community food production sites can implement before and after the actual food production is happening. Zack Grant will cover \n\nfood safety planning for small food producing sites\nhow to handle produce once it has been harvested\npre-season planning to prevent harvest waste and increase logistical ease for the end user.\n\nThis training will be tailored to the unique work Grace Seeds Ministry is conducting through its Share the Harvest Project in Chicago; but is open and applicable to all Chicagoland community garden participants.  If you participate in a community or school garden\, share produce at a farmers market or food pantry\, or just want to be sure you’re feeding your family safely from your home garden – this training is for you! \nPlease RSVP to graceseesministry@gmail.com or 773-495-7865.\n\nDownload (PDF\, 5.22MB) \n

SUMMARY:Chicago Flower and Garden Show
DESCRIPTION:The roots and inspiration of the Chicago Flower & Garden Show can be traced back as far as 1847 when an exposition was presented by the Chicago Horticulture Society. The show has since evolved. From decade to decade it has moved venues\, grown in size and expanded its list of attractions. Today the show welcomes more than 40\,000 attendees to Navy Pier\, where they can experience every facet of horticulture. While visiting\, attendees can walk through life-size gardens\, participate in DIY workshops\, learn from educational seminars\, enjoy garden-to-table cooking presentations and more. The Chicago Flower & Garden Show is encouraging new generations to get involved and be inspired by gardening.
