=================================
Happy Summer!!
It has been a busy month in the fifth district. Meeting constituents and supporting small businesses in the district.
Please stay cool and safe this summer. Make sure to drink plenty of water if you are outside, and if you are in need of shelter, the City of Chicago offers numerous [cooling centers, libraries, and other public buildings](https://aa1n4.r.ag.d.sendibm3.com/mk/cl/f/sh/SMK1E8tHeFuBlzqgiycYjkFrLpq9/H5_ZT2xnDYUU) where you can go to beat the heat.
As always, my staff and I are available to assist you by phone at 773-924-4614 or via email at rep5district at gmail.com. Thank you for reading this newsletter.
Please share it with a neighbor or friend.

3rd Legislative District Budget Town Hall
-----------------------------------------------
Thank you to everyone who joined us for our Budget Town Hall. It is always great to hear from constituents directly on the issues they are concerned with at the state level and how we can support them. My colleagues State Senator Mattie Hunter & State Representative Sonya Harper and I are committed to keeping an open-door policy for our residents. We are here to serve you.
Roberts Temple Church of God in Christ
--------------------------------------
I am proud to support federal efforts to create a [national historic site at Roberts Temple Church of God in Christ](https://aa1n4.r.ag.d.sendibm3.com/mk/cl/f/sh/SMK1E8tHeG13E8fdu8m2pZYbK8QP/2uac14m2Q0zk), where the funeral of Emmett Till was held. It is important for everyone to know the significance of Emmett Till and Chicago.

I was proud to join U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Michael Regan as he visited the Chicago Urban League's headquarters as part of President Biden's Investing in America tour.
He stopped by the Chicago Urban League's headquarters to tour their community solar projects & programs and to highlight EPA’s Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund. As part of the Investing in America agenda, the EPA’s $27 billion Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund (GGRF) will leverage public investment with private capital to finance clean energy projects in areas that have historically been locked out of this type of investment.
HB 2789- Bill Signing
----------------------
Banning books is a devastating attempt to erase our history and the authentic stories of many. Thank you to Illinois Secretary of State for this tireless effort on this important matter. I am proud that Governor JB Pritzker signed HB 2789 into law, this bill would withhold state funding from any of the state’s 1,600 public or school libraries that remove books from their shelves.
