Dear Neighbors,

I hope you have been enjoying the start of spring as much as I have! Over the last month I have been hard at work, advancing legislation, and engaging with the community. Last month, I introduced HB2755, a bill to establish a commemorative Emmett Till Day in Illinois. I am pleased to announce that this past week HB2755 passed out of the Illinois house. This legislation will ensure that Emmett Till’s legacy continues to educate future generations and inspire the ongoing fight for justice and equality. This is our history, and we will not forget it. Not now. Not ever.

Additionally, HB2757, The Downtown Revitalization Task Force, has officially passed the Illinois House. I remain committed to shaping a post pandemic downtown Chicago, that works for everyone. This task force, is a critical step toward building a stronger more vibrant city that reflects our strength, brilliance, and beauty. I want to send my deepest thank you to the fantastic organizations and community members who made this task force possible. This is what partnership and progress looks like -- and we are just getting started.

Thank you for your continued support in making our community stronger. As always, my office is here to serve you. Wishing you and your family a wonderful rest of April!

On March 29th, we held a community meeting in the 20th ward, where we discussed the future of USPS as the federal government considers privatization. I was grateful to have attended this meeting and want to express deep gratitude to congressmen Jonathan Jackson and Danny Davis for sharing their valuable insights and to all in the community who came out to discuss and support. A big thank you as well to alderwoman Jeanette Taylor for hosting the meeting and bringing us all together. We must continue to fight for the services that bring us together.

On April 1st we cut the ribbon at the brand new flagship DMV location in Downtown Chicago. A big thank you to Alexi Giannoulias, for his leadership in making this a reality. Now it will be easier than ever for Chicagoans to access streamlined DMV services and get their REALS IDS. Let's make sure we are all ready for what is to come--don't wait! Get your REAL ID today!

Even as session runs long and the work of passing legislation continues late into the evenings, one of the most powerful parts of being in Springfield is connecting with the advocates who travel here to fight for their communities. From housing and climate to restorative justice, healthcare, and women's health -- your voices are vital. these conversations ground our owkr and remind us exactly who we're here to serve. I'm so grateful for your passion, your presence, and your persistence!

###Protect & Bolster USPS

By signing this petition you will help us get this over to federal legislators in DC to prevent the privatization of USPS and start supporting USPS' important role in our democracy.
