Amy,
Although we both wanted to hear from the gals who posted in our Forum about
the water hydrant policy changes affecting our community gardeners, I heard
back only from Marsha, and not quite anything we can make public. She said
that Maxwell and another neighboring garden turned to the local Fire
Station to have their water connected. She was driving to the distribution
and on speaker phone so not very clear audio. What the local Firehouse
guys told them was enlightening. As long as they're not filling storage
tanks such as horse troughs or water barrels, there's no danger of
contamination being sucked back into the water supply, so this whole fire
hydrant policy doesn't even apply to gardens which just feed water
with hoses and do not capture water.
We cannot expose the guys at the firehouse or their relationship to
gardeners, but privately we can get the word out that this is a possible
fix for gardens.
I've asked May Toy to weigh in on this. Yet to hear from her.
So I don't know how long we can hold up the newsletter with this. Maybe
just a short paragraph on our brief contact with AUA and that they did make
changes to the letter is all we should/can say just yet?
Some gardens such as Taylor Street Farms just forked over the $900 to get
their water turned on.
Lorraine
