        **FY 2024 Budget News**
===============================

I voted in favor of balanced, responsible budget that rebuilds Illinois’ fiscal house while still investing in communities, families, education, and more.

My top priority as a state representative is to advocate for the interests of the district. That starts with a balanced budget that sets Illinois up for a financially stable future for years to come. The budget prioritized smart spending decisions and analyzed the budget line-by-line, leading to a fiscally and socially responsible document that invests in families and sets our children up for success.

The fiscal year 2024 budget funds education for all ages, including $350 million in new funding for classroom education, historic investments in the Smart Start initiative for early childhood education, and a $100 million expansion in funding for MAP grants for college students. In concert with the significant investments in education, the budget also allocated hundreds of millions of dollars in funding to community-based violence prevention, and community providers that offers after-school programming, youth summer jobs, and enriching opportunities to keep children safe and to provide for their futures.

The fiscal year 2024 budget provided grants to community organizations and agencies in the district.

- $1M Institute for Positive Living
- $21.7M Ada S. McKinley Community Services
- $9.9M Insight Hospital

In addition, to voting for a balanced budget. I voted on important legislation that makes a difference in the district.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

HB 1342- This bill allows the Chicago Transit Authority to suspend riding privileges for “problematic” passengers and outlines how the CTA board can make that determination. The bill also includes an expansion of free or reduced fares to people 14 to 24 enrolled in career-oriented programs and gives tens of thousands of $20 transit cards to domestic and sexual-assault support organizations.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

HB 3957- This legislation prevents drug manufacturers and distributors from charging unfair prices for off-patent and generic drugs in Illinois.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

***                    These pieces of legislation await final action from the governor.***
