Meet the speaker

Sarah Farley

Sarah Farley is the Local Food Systems and Small Farms Educator serving Lake and McHenry Counties through the University of Illinois Extension. Growing up on a diversified family farm in Pennsylvania, Sarah’s interests led her to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Animal Sciences from Penn State and a master’s degree in Agriculture and Life Sciences from Virginia Tech. Sarah delivers research-based programs, collaborates with community partners and coalitions, and extends University resources to meet the needs of those involved in the local food system. Sarah’s research interests are in small ruminants, composting, and food access.

Meet the farmer

Kevin Kelley

Kevin Kelley is a co-founder of Terra Vitae Farms along his wife Katie, and Colleen and Michael Biver, their daughter and son-in-law. Terra Vitae Farms is located in Woodstock, IL and focuses on creating a thriving and complex farm ecosystem, which prioritizes robust, flourishing, and diverse foundational components of soil microbiology, flora, and fauna. Through the management of an interlinked system via regenerative farming techniques, the Kelleys and Bivers manage livestock and endeavor to grow the cleanest food conceivably possible. Their farming enterprise is seven years old and produces pork, beef, lamb, goat and chicken for direct sale to consumers.
