There is good news and bad news. The good news is that the 2024 budget has
$1M for street ash tree treatment. The bad news is that Forestry is
planning to treat only 5,000 of the 43,000 street ash this treatment season.

Ash not treated this year will become untreatable or die by next year.

* It is imperative that all of the budgeted $1M be used to treat parkway
ash trees this year. The ash trees treated in 2024 will be the only ones
left by 2025, the rest at that point being untreatable or dead from EAB.*

Research has shown that once ash are infected with Emerald Ash Borer (EAB)
they have eight years until they are untreatable or dead. Chicago is in
year seven.
