Volunteer Opportunity: CCCG Perennial Giveaway, August 29th

CCCG is hosting a perennial giveaway in Garfield Park on August 29th, and they could use some volunteers. It’s a chance to help a great organization, learn how to run a plant giveaway, a snag some fancy perennials for yourself. Details below:

We have a modest donation of perennial plants from Elite Growers coming to Chicago on August 29th. They will be delivered about 10 am to the Farmer’s Market site in Garfield Park at the southeast corner of Lake and Kedzie. This will not only be a great opportunity to pick up a few perennials for your gardens, but it will also be a chance to learn how to run one of these plant giveaways so the next time we do this it can be in YOUR neighborhood!

Angela Taylor, gardener at the Fulton Street Flower and Vegetable Garden and a member of the new Garfield Park Community Gardener Association will be coordinating the volunteer sign up, so please get back to her ASAP to tell her that you are willing to help so she can sign you up. We will need at least 35 volunteers – more if possible.

There will be three “shifts”: 9:00 – Noon, Noon -3:00, and 3:00 – 5:00.

The jobs will be:
5 people to sit at the registration table
4 people to provide “crowd control”
15 people to unload the trucks and group the plants
5 people to make sure the right plants go to the right groups and
10 people to make sure the plants that each garden is picking up is in the right place and loaded into the cars.

You can reach Angela at taylor3433@yahoo.com or 773-851-3162, and tell her if you have a a preferred job and time slot.

After you have registered, you will be sent the complete description of the work to be done that day – and you can look forward to a brief orientation the morning of the event (and first crack at picking a few plants for yourself!)
