Share and Swap: May Tips
It’s finally spring, and now we can plant seeds and seedlings to make our gardens green and happy after a long, cold winter. It’s also a really good time as your perennials start coming up to dig them up and divide them.
Why would you want to do that? Perennials will grow and multiply themselves right where they are planted, and every now and then they need to be dug up, divided, and spread out in your garden. Think of it as a way to get “free” new plants!
In adition, you can share and swap the plants you dig up and divide with other gardeners so you can get new plants for your gardens. That means it’s also a really good time to throw a party in your own garden or with all the other gardens in your region so you can all get together to share and swap, help each other learn how divide and plant these plants, and then have a barbecue.
May is a very good month to do this (as is the fall before the snow falls) Think about what a lot of fun this could be and how you might even find new garden friends and members with this community activity.
