“Spring Flowers Galore” a big success
Almost seventy community gardeners gathered on April 11 to discuss 2015 goals for each of the six CCGA committees – Communications, Development, Education, Shared Resources, Volunteer Coordination and Membership. It was an excellent brainstorming session. Details and a meeting date for committees to follow up will be posted soon.
Everyone then celebrated the beautiful sunny day with the distribution of spring annuals. For a small donation, fifty community gardens received over 1400 alyssum, cerinthe, pansies, osteospermum, and many other spring blooming plants and specialty garlic and potatoes, all grown and donated by the Austin Green Team and Westover Farms. These plants will beautify community gardens all over the city.
An added bonus were the 125 blooming kalanchoe plants, part of a donation of plant material that the Resources Committee obtained from Macys in Downtown Chicago.
Resource Committee members rounded out the Spring Distribution with a raffle featuring an array of excellent used gardening tools, as well as a free “seed table.”
Hope you can join us for a Summer Plant Distribution on May 16. There will be 2000 plants—everything from heirloom tomato seedlings to herbs and summer annual flowers, as well as more beautiful house plants from the Macy’s donation. Details will follow. See you then!
